Taking a Gamble

This year I have purchased one ton of clay, which is over 2000 lbs of potential. I was lucky enough to hire a person to haul it down into my basement studio. Within that ton of clay, there are four colors of clay, one that is new to me. Pioneer Dark with speckles. A clay I have never actually worked in, but I had a friend who used it.

This year was full of travel with my mother and left me little time to do any test tiles. I am taking a major risk with my current kiln load. I used about 70 lbs of the Pioneer Dark without any testing, something my training has told me never to do, but I have to admit that I was excited to have this new color and just took the plunge.

The kiln starts Sunday night, and I won’t be able to open her until Tuesday. Fingers crossed; otherwise, I have very little inventory for Scandinavian Festival.
